Follow Up Is Critical But, Pitching Isn’t!

“The fortune is in the follow up!”

I’m sure you’ve heard that phrase before. It’s been around forever and I can say that it’s 100% true. But, there’s one thing you have to remember when following up with your prospects.

It doesn’t mean you should be pitching them to buy all the time.

People hate to be sold to but they love to buy. They just want to make sure that whomever they spend their hard earned cash with is going to be the best choice for them.

Now let me clarify that you do need to ask for the sale. If you don’t ask they won’t be able to answer yes.

Now most businesses don’t follow up much at all, if any. So by just following up at all you’re already a step ahead of the majority.

But what if you could share great information with the people you meet and create an army of raving fans without sounding like a pushy drug dealer?

It’s easier than you think.

By following up with your prospects and sharing great information with them, you build yourself as an expert in your industry and as someone who truly cares about their customers.

I believe in the 80/20 rule when it comes to follow up. 80% of your follow up should be about providing value and educating the prospect on your industry. Not selling them but educating them with tips, tricks and resources that will help them out related to your industry.

By sharing great information like this 80% of the time, you build rapport with your audience and they see you as the expert. Along with the fact that you don’t sound like a pitchy salesman. You sound like someone who really cares. (You do, don’t you?)

Then the other 20% of your follow up can be about how you can help them. Maybe offer a coaching session or consultation. Tell them about special offers, etc.

The goal is to give first and build the credibility first.

Marketing is like dating, you have to take it one step at a time or you’ll run off your prospect.

By following up, you’ll easily close more sales in your business simply because most people don’t follow up at all. But by adding a ton of value and educating your prospect, you’ll build raving fans who know, like and trust you with their business.
