Are You Too Busy To Grow Your Business?

As entrepreneurs, we're athletesThe other day on Facebook I saw an awesome quote from the “A Year Of Business Success” group (which includes one of my favorite peeps, Larry Winget) that fits SO well…

“I’m trying to grow my business – I don’t have time for training” is like “I’m trying to be an athlete – I don’t have time to workout.”

I hear this all the time from entrepreneurs I talk to. They come to me asking for help with their marketing because they are struggling yet when I give them a strategy that would work for them so many respond with the “That sounds great but I just don’t have time for that. I’m too busy!”

Well, if they are so busy, then why are they broke?

It’s not like they are busy with customers. They told me they didn’t have enough of them.

If you want to excel at anything, business or life, you need to dedicate time to improving the things that matter most.

Stephen Covey talked about this with “Sharpening The Saw“.

So many people are so busy sawing away at the tree they don’t stop to sharpen the saw so it actually cuts.

For a plant to grow it needs food. You need to water it. You need to give it nourishment.

You’re not any different.

YOU need nourishment to grow as well. Learning new things is part of the process. If you want to grow your business, learn the steps that will take you there.

That may be reading a book, watching a video training course, or hiring a mentor/coach who will help you. No matter what route you go, you NEED those new skills. You need to be learning to grow.

“YOU” are a work in progress and always will be. The day you’re not growing is the day you’re dead.

The best athletes in the world have coaches and train all the time. They are always looking to improve their game. They are on a non-stop drive to be better than they were yesterday.

As entrepreneurs, we’re athletes as well. We have to train. We have to strive to be better than we were yesterday… and, we need to always be on the lookout for ways to improve.

Not having time is just an excuse.

You’ve got to MAKE TIME!

It’s about setting your priorities right.

When someone tells me they don’t have time to spend 30 minutes a week to put something in place that will increase their sales by 10% easily, I think they must like being broke and stressed not having enough customers.

Are you actually committed to getting to the goal you’re wanting to reach? If so, then make time.

  • Get up 30 minutes earlier.
  • Take a shorter lunch.
  • Watch 30 minutes less TV at night.
  • Work on the weekend.

Make the commitment to do it then… DO IT!

We’re not talking about a huge commitment here. Just 30 minutes a day could change your life.

  • 30 minutes of…
  • reading great business book
  • watching a training video
  • listening to a personal development audio in the car
  • etc.

Remember, if you’re not growing, you’re dying.

Your business is the same. If you care about your business then you’ve got to dedicate the time to learn how to do it right. Learn how to shortcut the mistakes.

Again, just 30 minutes could be the time you need to take grow your business, be more efficient, put systems in place so you can work less in the business and even to make the change that lets you work with less stress.
